A little pre-wedding Q&A - promise it’s easier than seating charts ;-)

  •  Where Are You Based? Will You Travel Nationwide/Overseas?

I am based just outside Edinburgh, Scotland and I’m happy to say that no distance is too great! I travel all the time, and I’ll go anywhere; my passport is ready :) I am always thrilled at the chance to work in new places and further locations, and just as thrilled to shoot in a local Scottish pub :) I love to travel and don't mind staying in a hotel before your wedding day to make sure I’m close by.

  • What Do We Receive After The Wedding?

Beautiful 7+ minute film set to a musical soundtrack, capturing the whole story of the day in a creative and truly engaging way. The film will be uploaded to your online gallery and also as a password protected movie on our Vimeo page and fully downloadable by you.

  • What Do You Do To The Film?

I carefully edit all of the important and beautiful visual moments from your day to a musical soundtrack – telling you story in an impactful and cinematic way. I colour grade the footage to look as beautiful as possible, and use some gentle effects to heighten the feelings of nostalgia and celebration. I don’t overlay any awkward dialogue in the wedding film because let’s face it – most of us aren’t professional public speakers, so it’s often best to leave it to the visuals to tell a breathtaking story (however I sometimes ask couples to record their vows, or other words of a significant meaning or poems they might have - I’ve even used a singing bride once :-)

  • Will We Meet Before The Big Day?

Absolutely. I love to meet all couples before the wedding to go through all the details of the day. If this is not possible due to distances then we will always be available for a chat over Zoom/FaceTime and are always eager to help with planning, scheduling, or sharing other tips I’ve accumulated over the years.

  • How Do You Feel About Same Sex/LGBTQ+ ?

All marriages are equal. I’m thrilled to work with so many incredible and diverse couples… whoever you are, I’d be honoured to capture your love.

  • We’re Having A Smaller Wedding, Do You Cover These As Well?

Yes, this is no problem! Please get in touch and we can talk about this further.

  • What Cameras And Equipment Do You Use?

I shoot on Nikon and Lumix gear. I like to keep everything stripped-back – you don’t want your wedding feel like a movie set. I only occasionally use a tripod, and also have a small gimbal – a camera stabiliser for moving shots. I also use flash and other external lights if it’s absolutely necessary – usually for darker parts of the venues or just for fun (drunken) moments on the dance floor :-) I have plenty of back-up gear for emergencies.

  • We Really Don’t Like Posing - Will That Be A Problem?

Not at all! I thrive on capturing people being their natural selves – laughing, chatting, getting down on the dance floor. I’ll capture the honest moments that happen through your day – that’s the really good stuff, anyway! Whilst my approach is mostly unobtrusive, I’m very happy take a more directorial role during your shoot if need be. I’ll keep the ‘directions’ casual – just enough guidance so you’re not standing there thinking ‘what do I do with my hands?!?’ Forget the stiff poses - get moving and don’t take yourself too seriously :) I’ll get you walking, spinning, bumping, squeezing :)! etc - you’ll get a variety of lively, fun portraits ;-)

  • How Is The Music Chosen For The Wedding Film?

I listen to the music you play throughout your day to get a great sense of what you like, and source a soundtrack that suits you and the feel of the day. It’s illegal to use popular hits without paying huge fees (and rightly so!) I love the process of finding the perfect music to suit your film, it’s as important to me as the footage.

  • Do You Require Food During The Day?

Yes, it would be lovely if I get fed on your day! All day cinematography takes a tonne of energy, and feeding me will ensure I can go as long as you need me to. I don’t expect a table with your guests, but somewhere to relax away from the hustle and bustle and grab a bite at the same time you’re having your dinner. On an elopement day I usually have some nibbles with me so don’t need feeding :-)

  • Do We Need To Provide A ‘Shot List’ To You?

Nope – I shoot like photojournalist, capturing the day how it naturally unfolds. A shot list takes the spontaneity out of the experience, and won’t allow me to be creative and be truly ‘in the moment’. You can leave the rest up to me – don’t worry, I love capturing even the tiniest of details!

  • How Long Will It Take To Receive Our Film?

You can expect delivery of your film within approximately 3-6 months from your big day - depending on the time of the year and peak wedding season June-September (meticulously editing each film is a super involved process – good things can’t be rushed!)

  • How Can We Book You?

If you’re ready to book, I’ll send out our paperwork and get things happening! Once the forms are complete and we’ve received the booking fee, we’ll be good to go :-)
